A new portable ultrasound system will be unveiled at this years World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland. Designed for front-line healthcare workers to help improve maternal health in developing regions in parts of Africa and SE Asia, the device will enable clinicians to provide care to their patients even in the most remote of settings.Coming back to Africa, Mother and Newborn related problems are one of the most pressing issues in the health sector. More than 70 % of pregnancy-related mortality can be curbed if there is proper care and timely medical interventions.
In the quest to solving these issue, GE Healthcare innovate an ultrasound device called V scan, it has rugged features that makes it a fit for rural use. V scan can detect complications in pregnancy earlier and also help pregnancy management and related decision making easier and faster.The device is battery powered and can be handled by rural health workers.
V scan has proved to be of great help in Tanzania it has helped healthcare workers to detect pregnancy issues earlier on and help health workers to quickly deploy help to pregnant mothers.
