Dallas Fort Worth PowerShell Users Group Week in Review email March 12 2012

,
Morning all,

Less than 6 days to go until this months Dallas Fort Worth PowerShell users group meeting.  This months meeting is scheduled for this Saturday, March 17th at 9:00am.  We will be hearing from Chris Morgan who shall demonstrate how to use PowerShell to create an Excel spreadsheet with data populated in a SQL database.  For folks who work with the Office products and SQL Server, this will be a good practical introduction to tasks you can get done using every day line of business applications.  For anyone new to PowerShell this is a great chance to see it in action, and, to ask questions, interact with other PowerShell-minded folks and throw out issues you may be having in your own work flow.

As mentioned last week, we as a group, are looking at changing the format a little.  Currently we meet from 9 to 10am once a month.  We are considering keeping the 9 to 10am slot for primary demonstration, teaching, and, presentation, but, also, adding on an extra hour, from 10 to 11am.  In this hour folks would be encouraged to talk shop, speculate about PowerShell, discuss particular problems they have with their scripts, and, explore the discussion earlier in the day further.  If you are new to PowerShell this is a wonderful opportunity.  Being able to sit down with folks like yourself who deal with PowerShell on a daily basis and get tips, resources, and, guidance can save you a ton of time as you get up to speed.

Last week was a little quieter on the PowerShell front at large.  One particularly exciting event that did take of was PowerShell Saturday held in Columbus this past Saturday.  From the chatter I heard it was pretty awesome.  Topics discussed and a list of presenters suggest a lot of hot topics were discussed.  Hopefully some of the information and ideas provided will trickle out to the rest of us.  I know for me, the WMI and web apps presentations looked pretty cool.  Perhaps in the future we can put together something of our own along these lines.  Also, we got word, for our user group, that Sapien Technologies will be providing us with some pretty cool surprises.  If you are interested in possibly getting a free eBook, code samples, software and copies of the PowerShell Toolkit courtesy of Sapien.  If you have never checked out their products check them out at: http://www.sapien.com.

If you have anything you are interested in looking at please let us know.  You can hold onto it until Saturday if you like, or, shoot an email so we can prepare any resources we may have.  If you can, grab somebody and drag them along. Look forward to seeing you Saturday,
